Ruhrpumpen is awarded contract to supply five vertical turbine pumps for use in one of the world's largest refineries

The five vertical turbine pumps will be used for firefighting operations

We are glad to announce Ruhrpumpen has been awarded a contract to supply five vertical turbine pumps for use in the new Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Al-Zour Refinery located approximately 90 km south of Kuwait City.

Ruhrpumpen supplies fire pumps for KNPC refinery

This plant will be the biggest oil refining facility in the Middle East and one of the largest in the world. When completed, the multi-billion dollar refinery, with a capacity of 615,000 bpd, will raise Kuwait's total refining capacity to 1.4 million bpd.

The project was divided by KNPC into five different packages. A joint venture between Hyundai E&C, SK E&C, and Saipem, won the fifth package, consisting of the construction of a USD 1.5 billion marine export terminal. This facility will be equipped with the vertical firefighting pumps designed and manufactured by Ruhrpumpen.

Each one of the marine fire pumps will pump sea water and be made of nickel-aluminium-bronze(NiAlBrz) with a K-monel shaft for superior strength and corrosion resistance.

The pumps are built according to NFPA 20 standards and will be UL listed/FM approved. Each pump is equipped with a Cummins diesel engine with hydraulic starting system, steel noise enclosure to reduce noise emissions to 85 dBA and a Securiplex water mist system to ensure correct coverage and fire protection.

The customer selected Ruhrpumpen based on our extensive knowledge and expertise in the Oil and Gas industry.

About Ruhrpumpen's VTP pumps:

The Vertical Turbine Pump (VTP) line is normally designed to operate in wells or sumps. The bowl assembly consists of a suction case or bell, with one or more stages, and a discharge case. The number of stages are determined by the head requirement of the customer's application.
